Art and craft exhibition, Nazzano

A special exhibition showcasing the entries to an ‘artisan craft’ competition. The competition is divided into two sections, general artistic craftsmanship and this year, a special section dedicated to “Wood and Weave.”

All works will be exhibited on 18 and 19 May 2013 at the Museo del Fiume in Nazzano, with the prize ceremony taking place at the craft market on the same dates in the streets of the village of Nazzano.

Sagra of St George’s (Prugnolo) mushroom and wild asparagus | Configni

This food festival, in the town of Configni (map) will be celebrating the Prugnolo mushroom (called St. George’s mushroom in English because it usually appears in the England around April 23rd), and wild asparagus.

The mushrooms and asparagus will be collected from woodlands surrounding the village, cooked with ‘Stringozzi‘, (a type of local pasta), and served alongside other local dishes including lamb, chicken, broad beans and wild chicory, all cooked according to local traditions and accompanied by local wine.

This sagra, from Saturday 25th – Sunday 26th May 2013, is a must for gourmets and nature lovers looking to experience Sabina’s landscape, culture and gastronomy. Food stalls will be open from 19.30 on both days, and also at 12.30 on Sunday.

Sagra della lumaca (Snail Sagra) | Tarano

From 7.30pm in the medieval village of Tarano in Sabina, on 1st June 2013, there will be La ’sagra della lumaca biologica laziale’ - A Sagra (food festival) of organic snails from Lazio. The snails will be accompanied by complimentary wine!

Sacra Vacunae historical re-enactment | Vacone

Every year, in the last weekend of June, the village of Vacone celebrates the Sacra Vacunae, an historical re-enactment dedicated to the Goddess Vacuna and ancient Rome. Over the three days of festivities you will be able to taste local wines and sample ancient recipes, and discover crafts and local gastronomic delights all in the setting of the picturesque village of Vacone. There will also be parades, games and fireworks.

The legio II Sabina – a military unit of the late Roman Republic – will make an appearance at the re-enactment.
